The Mad Adventurer is a compact, 2-person camper without a built-in bathroom – perfect for travelers who primarily stay at paid campsites, want the comfort of a rooftop tent, and still want to travel light and be mobile. Fully equipped with a kitchen, refrigerator, secondary battery, LED lighting, and clever features, it makes your New Zealand adventure uncomplicated and flexible.
🚐 Comfort & Freedom
The Mad Adventurer combines the drivability of a compact SUV with the comfort of a campervan road trip. It is the only non-self-contained model in the Mad Campers fleet – meaning no permanently installed toilet or shower on board – but offers lower rental and operating costs, easy handling, and compact dimensions for urban and rural routes.

Sleeping accommodations: Up to 2 people
Sleeping area: Large, comfortable roof tent area (e.g. approx. 140 cm × 200 cm ) – easy to open, with 360° all-round view and panoramic windows.
Interior: Cozy living and kitchen area with LED lighting and USB charging ports.

📌 1. Basic insurance (included)
The daily rental price automatically includes basic "Risk Taker" insurance .
This means you are basically insured, but you will have to pay a deductible (bond) in case of damage.
You must leave a deposit (bond) on your credit card to cover the excess.
🎯 2. Additional insurance packages (Excess Waivers)
🔹 Risk Taker (Standard – included)
You pay the full deductible in case of damage.
The deposit is correspondingly higher.
Suitable if you can live with a higher risk.
🔹 The Gambler (Partially reduced)
Cost:
Under 25: 30 NZD per day
Over 26: NZD 25 per day
Reduces the amount you have to pay yourself if damage occurs.
You pay a smaller deposit than with the standard deposit.
Offers a middle ground between risk and cost.
🔹 You're Good (Maximum Protection)
Cost:
Under 25: NZD 40 per day
Over 26: NZD 35 per day
It fully protects you against excess costs up to a defined amount (depending on the vehicle, up to e.g. $5,000 or more).
No or very little deposit required.
Best option for maximum safety and relaxed travel.
