Hokitika Campground

My top campgrounds in New Zealand

Just about 6 kilometers south of Hokitika lies one of my top campgrounds on the west coast of New Zealand. Lake Mahinapua is a little tricky to find, as there's only a small sign at the side of the road. So, drive south from Hokitika and after about 6 kilometers you'll see a pub/hotel on the right; the sign for the campground entrance is there.

Since it's a DOC campground, you can stay overnight in a great setting at a really reasonable price. Pure nature.

If you walk south in the campground, there is a short circular trail that you shouldn't miss; it feels like being in a primeval forest.
